We all know how important it is to write useful, interesting content on your blog. However, if no one can find it in Google, you’ll never reach your desired target audience. Follow these search engine optimization (SEO) tips to make sure your blog is seen by customers, potential customers, employees, peers and whoever else you want to reach.

Include optimized videos and photos.  Not only are photos and videos eye-catching, but they are also easy to optimize. Read this blog for tips on optimizing photos and videos. It’s important to use big, bold photos that serve a purpose. Your photos should help explain the point of your blog post. Infographics, graphs and screen shots are all excellent to include in blogs. The better the photo or video, the more people will want to link to it. More links always equal more SEO juice.

Join communities that relate to your blog. Find other blogs, articles and websites that relate to your blog topic and start reading, linking and commenting. This will help you start building relationships within the community, which will encourage others to comment and link to your blog.

Promote your blog on all different kinds of social media. While Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn are great places to promote your blog, don’t forget about other niche social networks like StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Tumblr, delicious, etc. Check out this list of social media websites to get ideas.

The Yahoo! Local Account Dashboard now has a new layout (see Figure 1). Here are the changes we noticed with the new Yahoo! User Interface:

  • Users now must verify their Yahoo! Local Listing. Verification can be done by phone, text, email message to the promoted email or a letter sent to the business address (see Figure 2)
  • The “Sign Up” button and “Edit” button on the Yahoo! Dashboard account now serve the same function
  • Facebook and Twitter can be linked on Yahoo! Local Listings
  • Users can now upload a logo when re-submitting rather than only when submitting listings for the first time
  • There is a new option that allows users to preview what the listing looks like in the search results as well as the option that allows you to preview your listing before its published
Local Splash will keep you current with the latest updates on the Yahoo! Local changes as progress continues to be made.

androidjellybeanAccording to Search Engine Land, Google recently announced its improved Google search user interface, a Siri-like female voice that will read you search results and Google Now, an application that takes your calendar, location and other data inputs and gives you information it thinks you can use.

Google’s response to Apple’s Siri: Google recently announced its improved voice search including a female assistant that reads certain categories of search results out loud. This new assistant was presented as an extension of voice search.

Google Now: To access Google Now, you will be able to touch the search box to get information based on your current location, the time of day and your Google calendar. This could include information on the local businesses around you, sports scores and train/bus schedules; anything Google thinks you may be interested in at that current time based on the information it can gather about you.

These updates will be part of Jelly Bean, the new update for Android which will be available to the public in mid-July. Have you started your mobile marketing campaign? Check out Local Splash’s mobile marketing services here.
