If your engagement on Twitter seems down, it’s time to wake up those followers and get them interested and re-tweeting again. Here are three great ways to interact with your Twitter audience so they will go from followers to customers before you can say “hash tag.”

  • Ask a question.  People love to express themselves on social media. So asking them a question that allows them to express their opinion will get them talking to you. Tweet a question and have them attach a hash tag to their answer. Who knows, you may be able to get a trending topic going.
  • Tweet a series. If you tweet that over the next few days you will be tweeting a series of “how-to’s” or sharing an exclusive peek at new products, people will keep checking back to see the next exciting tweet. People always say, leave them wanting more; tweeting a series will do just that.
  • Answer a common question. If yours is like most businesses, you probably get a lot of the same questions to your customer service representatives. Why not do a Twitter FAQ? Tweet out the answers to some of your more common questions and the people who follow you will not only appreciate it, they’re likely to get excited about their newfound knowledge and share the wealth with others by re-tweeting.

Try these three great Twitter engagement techniques and you’ll not only engage your existing followers but attract new ones.

One million users isn’t cool.  You know what’s cool? A billion users.

Social network, Facebook, just exceeded 1 billion users. The announcement came today from Facebook Co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life,” said Zuckerberg of reaching the milestone.

According to CNN, it took Facebook six years to get 500 million users. Less than two years later, the company has hit the 1 billion mark; not too bad for a company that got its start in a college dorm room.

What does Facebook have in store for the future? According to Zuckerberg, the company is focusing on improving the mobile experience of its users. Half of Facebook’s users access the site at least once a month from their mobile device and over 100 million users only log into Facebook from their mobile device. Zuckerberg says that mobile “is the future,” which is why they are focusing on perfecting the mobile Facebook application.

Are you one of Facebook’s billion users?

Bing recently added a feature that allows users to search for photos shared by Facebook friends using the search engine. This feature is an expansion of the social sidebar Bing launched in May that integrated Facebook into the search results.

Bing Social Sidebar (Facebook integration)

Now friends’ photos relevant to your search query appear in the social sidebar along with other results. When a friend’s photo pops up, you are able to click on it and browse that entire photo album on Bing. The Bing Friends’ Photos landing page also allows you to see all your friends’ photos on one page (the format looks very similar to Pinterest). You can also see your own albums and photos you’re tagged in with comments and “likes” in the sidebar. Users can also comment, “like” and share the photos directly from Bing.

The new Facebook photo sharing on Bing will let you keep up with your friends’ photos that you otherwise may have missed on Facebook. Does Bing’s new integration with Facebook encourage you to ditch Google as your go-to search engine?
